Amy Was Little Like Me.

by Mary Crome

Amy was little like me; when she wasn't there anymore.

The big people said she had passed away.

I wondered where away was and how she passed it.

The big people said she was gone.

I wondered where she went.

The big people said she was with the Heavenly Father.

I couldn't see her with her Father.

The big people said she had gone peacefully in her sleep.

I wondered would I go peacefully in my sleep.

Mummy said she was dead.

Amy was little like me when she died.

I was scared. Would I die too?

"When you are very old," The big people said.

But Amy wasn't old--she was little like me.

The big people bought candles for Amy.

There were lots and lots of candles for Amy.

Some candles were big and long and burned softly for a long time.

Some candles were small and short and burned brightly for a short time.

All candles burn and all candles go out.

Amy was little like me.

I have a 4 yr BA SDS and a certificate of Social Work. I have been writing for young children for several years now and have just recently started to approach publishers with my work. I hope this story helps others who helping children to deal with the loss of another child. (I am hoping it is one day made into a picture book.)
