Make Me Psychic

by Leandra Walker

Make Me Psychic

It was more than three years ago that I was flipping around the TV channels while John worked on his knitting. I stopped at a strange show on SciFi where a man was telling people what their dead relatives wanted them to know. Hmmmmm.

"Why are you watching this garbage?" John asked me and I replied, "I'm waiting to see the trick, how it's done."

We continued to watch John Edward and Crossing Over, never figuring out the trick. Finally, one day we came to believe this man was everything he claimed to be. He was reading a woman and mentioned a "white dog named for food." It wasn't until she called her mother later that she found out her grandfather once had a white toy poodle named "Popcorn." There's no way he could have guessed that or pulled it from her, since she didn't know it. That's what finally convinced us.

We kept on watching, and I started calling to get tickets. I never got lucky, so we never attended a taping or seminar. But we kept on watching. In fact, in the ICU on the day before he died, John gave me two code words he'd use "if I have to come through John Edward to get to you."

Imagine my excitement when I finally scored two seats at a seminar. My widowed friend, Kimberly, lived near the city where it was being held, so I packed up and flew down to stay with her. Kimberly's husband, Jack, died 3 days before John did, and we believe they are together.

I should pause here and tell you that Kimberly and I have both had ADCs - After Death Communications - from our husbands. Sometimes they come from friends with some psychic ability, other times a song on the radio or a particular sign (in my case, hawks) will let us know our husbands' spirits are around us.

We were driving down the highway looking at a completely cloudy sky, anxious and excited about going to the John Edward seminar. Suddenly, the overcast broke and allowed two sunbeams to shine through. There were two hawks hovering overhead. And a song came on the radio, "My Immortal" by Evanessence. Here's a sample of the lyrics:

These wounds won't seem to heal

This pain is just too real

There's just too much that time cannot erase

I knew right then that John Edward wasn't going to read us. He always says that "those who need a reading will get one" and "you don't need a psychic medium to contact your loved ones." Obviously, John and Jack weren't content to wait for the seminar and had to let us know they were already with us.

The seminar was exciting to watch. I realized that the number of "hits" were the same
